Age & Sun Spot Removal Conveniently located to serve Paramus and Bergen County

Pigmented lesions (dark spots on the skin caused by a higher concentration of melanin) such as sunspots, freckles, melasma, and more, are incredibly common among the entire population. While some pigmented lesions are present at birth, sun damage and aging are often at fault. In fact, many clinical studies have shown that the presence of pigmented lesions on the face can cause patients to look significantly older than their chronological age. However, these benign spots on the face, neck, chest, and hands are easily and safely treatable with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light).

What is IPL/Picosure?

An IPL treatment is an innovative cosmetic procedure that utilizes powerful and precise light energy to treat skin imperfections. At Elysium Aesthetics and VeinCare, we use Picosure by Cynosure. Your appointment begins with a consultation to discuss your concerns. Your skin type will be assessed as well as the spots that cause you concern. Only spots that are determined to be benign will be treated.

Treating Age and Sunspots With Picosure

Depending on how long you have had the pigmented lesion, as well as its size and depth, determine how many sessions you will need. Most patients require anywhere between 1 and 6 treatments. Each session lasts approximately 20-30 minutes. During the treatment, one of two methods will be used depending on the size of the area being treated. For single, focal lesions, a template will be used to protect the surrounding tissue to ensure that only the pigmented lesion is targeted. For larger areas such as the chest or back, or even to address several freckles on the face, the wand is moved slowly over the entire area to be treated.

What to Expect After Your Picosure Treatment

Immediately after the treatment, the spots may appear to be darker than prior to the treatment and the skin may be slightly red for a few hours and feel like a mild sunburn. This is normal. Many often describe the appearance of looking like a “coffee grind.” Over the course of the next several weeks, the spot(s) will begin to fade, flake off and appear lighter.

How Much Does Picosure Cost?

The cost of a Picosure treatment varies from patient to patient and depends on the skin condition being treated. We’ll assess the quality of your skin and discuss your cosmetic goals during your consultation to develop a personalized treatment plan that’s suited to your specific needs. Once we have developed a plan that’s tailored to your unique goals, we’ll discuss the price associated with it.
