WHAT ARE EXOSOMES?
Exosomes could possibly be the fountain of youth. We are in a new frontier in regenerative and aesthetic medicine that will likely change how we treat various medical conditions over the next decade. Our way of thinking about regenerative medicine and they way cell communicate with each other has changed.
Exosomes are biological messengers released from cells with a specific purpose to get other cells to become super factories. Exosomes are small packets of signaling molecules measuring 40 to 100 nm. They have a lipid membrane that allows them to adhere to other cells. They contain microRNAs (miRNA) and proteins. They do not contain DNA. They are produced in abundance by mesenchymal cells.
EXOSOMES FOR HAIR GROWTH:
There are clusters partially undifferentiated progenitor cells lying in a quiescent or resting phase throughout our body, including joints, the nervous system, muscle, liver, and of course the hair follicles. As we age, our ability to activate these cells is significantly reduced. Exosomes allows for rapid awakening and maturation of these cells, allowing them to differentiate into a very active phenotypical cell. In other words, a resting hair precursor cell differentiates into a super mature hair cell and begin producing all the messenger RNAs and proteins that a hair cell would have.
HOW ARE EXOSOMES PRODUCED?
Exosomes are acellular products isolated in a lab from placental or mesenchymal tissue. The do not contain any human tissue, cells, or DNA. Exosomes are isolated in the billions and packaged in small vials which are stored frozen. They are safe.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM EXOSOMES?
You are a good candidate if you have thinning, receding hair, male pattern baldness, or suffer from alopecia areata. Exosomes hair treatment is especially promising for women who have fewer options for hair restoration. Women with female pattern baldness or thinning hair are excellent candidates.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT?
Exosomes are kept frozen until the day of treatment. Once thawed, they must be used within several hours. They are reconstituted with small amount of normal saline. The exosomes are then injected into the scalp. The treatment process is made comfortable with topical numbing and Pronox. Post care instructions include avoidance of any anti-inflammatory medications.
HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?
We expect noticeable hair growth to begin within 3-5 weeks. We have seen results in as little as two weeks. Your hair will continue in the months following the treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Exosomes treatment for hair regrowth is a new treatment and we do not know how long the hair growth will last. We are seeing results at the 1 year mark with no maintenance treatments needed.
HOW MUCH DOES A TREATMENT COST?
The cost of treatment will be discussed at your consultation and depends on the amount of exosomes you will need (2ml, 5 ml, 7 ml). For a single area treatment (crown, mid-scalp, or frontal), a 2 ml vial is recommended. The 5 ml vial is recommended for up to 3 areas. The whole head will require 7 ml.
It is also possible to reduce your cost by having a friend treated the same day.
