As we age our skin undergoes unwanted changes. We produce less collagen and elastin that make up the support structure or scaffold of our skin. This results in laxity, wrinkles, crepey, and sagging skin.

What Is Plasma Elite Plasma Pen?

Plasma Elite plasma pen is a non-surgical procedure for skin tightening and wrinkle reduction. The Plasma Elite plasma pen can also be used for non surgical eyelid lift, sun spots, stretch marks, and scarring. The plasma pen causes skin tightening and helps reduce wrinkles by delivering plasma energy to affected area.

How Does The Plasma Elite Plasma Pen Work?

The Plasma Elite plasma pen works by ionizing the air between the tip of the pen and your skin. This creates and electrical arc or mini flash of lightening. The electrical arc sublimates the underlying skin which causes a crust formation at the treatment site and results in the contraction of the surrounding skin.

Unlike laser, the electrical arc is not chromophore dependent. The electrical arc zaps the underlying skin uniformly and spares the surrounding tissue. There is little to no heat transfer to the untreated skin.

The results of the Plasma Elite plasma pen are instantaneous and the skin continues to contract over the next couple of weeks to years as collagen is produce by fibroblast cells.

The visible effects are:

During the treatment, the skin crust and eventually sloughs off. The skin undergoes the three stages of healing: inflammation, proliferation, and maturation. During inflammation, there is redness and swelling the treatment area. This can last 3-8 days. This is followed by the proliferation phase where the skin contracts and new collagen is laid down. The proliferation stage occurs between days 3-30. Finally, maturation occurs between 6 weeks and 2 years as the collagen fibers and extracellular matrix become more organized.

Am I A Candidate For Plasma Pen?

You are a candidate for Plasma Elite plasma pen treatment if you have light or slightly tanned skin, Fitzpatrick I-IV. There is increase risk of scarring in patients who have a Fitzpatrick V-VI skin types.

The procedure is ideal of saggy or loose skin, crows feet, creepy skin under the eye, cheek wrinkles, lip lines, nasolabial folds, and hooded eyelid.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments depend on the severity of skin laxity and wrinkles. Patients with moderate or severe wrinkles and sagging skin might require a second or third treatment performed 8 weeks after the first.

Is It Painful?

The procedure is made comfortable after a topical numbing agent is applied. Patients may report a mild tingling.

What Are The Risks Of The Procedure?

There are some minor reactions that happen during the course of treatment and following the treatment that you should be aware of The electrical arc sublimates the skin. This results in the 1-2 mm area of skin zap to crust. The skin will become red and inflamed. The inflammation might last for a few days.

It’s important to maintain proper hygiene to minimize risk infection. You should not pick or scratch the treated area to minimize risk of infection. There might be a clear discharge called an exudate. This is part of the healing process and is expected to occur.

Hyperpigmentation and scarring can also occur. Hyperpigmentation and scarring are more likely to happen in patients with a Fizpatrick skin type of IV and VI or have a history of scar formation.
